Protecting Those Who Can't Protect Themselves
Happy Mother’s Day and welcome to this edition of the Barletta Bulletin. As we celebrate this special day, it is most appropriate that we think about the mothers and newborn babies who need our help and support in combating an addiction to opiates. Sadly, in the time it takes the average American to commute to work each morning, at least one baby will be born in the United States with that painful circumstance. You read that correctly: every 25 minutes, an innocent and defenseless newborn enters the world helpless against the pain and suffering of opiate withdrawal. If a nation is measured by what it does to care for its most vulnerable citizens, then we must do all we can to protect these babies.
