Barletta Applauds Decision to Withdraw from Iran Deal

WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) issued the following statement in support of President Donald J. Trump’s announcement that the United States will withdraw from the Iran Deal:

“I applaud President Trump for his decision to put an end to our appeasement of the brutal Iranian regime and withdraw from the flawed nuclear deal with Iran.  Instead of making tough demands, the Obama Administration decided that striking this deal with the world’s largest state sponsor of terror was more important than the merits of the deal’s terms.  This ill-conceived deal was a big mistake that has done nothing to prevent the possibility of a nuclear Iran, whose military budget has grown 40 percent since the deal was signed and who continues to develop and test-fire ballistic missiles in the deal’s aftermath.  It has put America’s national security, and that of our allies, at risk.

“As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I know that the threats to the American homeland and our allies are real.  Appeasing terrorism will only encourage more terrorism.  I look forward to supporting President Trump as he works towards a better deal that puts the security of the American people, and that of our allies, first.”
