Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) released the following statement after the House Committee on Ways and Means unveiled the much anticipated tax reform package:

“This legislation is a bold, pro-growth bill that will overhaul our nation’s tax code for the first time in 31 years.  With this bill, a typical middle-income family of four, earning $59,000 will receive a $1,182 tax cut.  Think about the family bills they could pay off.  That’s more money they can use for whatever is important to them, whether it be purchasing a new refrigerator, finishing a lingering car payment, or putting away savings for the future.  The single mom, working two jobs and making $30,000 a year, will have her standard deduction doubled to $12,000, allowing her to only pay a 12% tax rate on $18,000 of taxable  income.  For her two kids, the child tax credit is increased from $1,000 to $1,600 per child for doctor payments, school supplies, and everyday clothes.  She will also receive an extra $300 credit for herself or a non-child family members, a major new resource for her family.  This historic legislation is a victory for the low and middle income earners of Pennsylvania, letting them keep more of their hard earned money and improving their day-to-day lives.  These are the people who the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will help, and I’m going to fight to make sure this becomes a reality.”
