Barletta Applauds Opening of U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem
WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) released the following statement in strong support of the opening of the U.S. embassy in the capital of Israel, Jerusalem:
“I applaud the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, which formally recognizes the city as the capital of Israel. I am proud to stand with those recognizing this truth. By moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital city, America has sent a powerful message of unity between our two countries and reaffirms the American people’s deep alliance with Israel since the founding of the modern state 70 years ago.
“After decades of broken promises by other presidents, President Trump has clearly recognized the historical connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem. There is no doubt that by fulfilling this promise made over two decades ago, he has reaffirmed the strength of our commitment to Israel, her people, and the partnership between our nations to pursue freedom, democracy, and peace.”
In January 2017, Barletta joined with 101 of his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in a letter to then President-Elect Trump in support of moving the American embassy to Jerusalem. You can read the letter here.
