HAZLETON – Today, U.S. Department of State spokeswoman Heather Nauert announced the Trump Administration’s plan to open the new U.S. Embassy based in Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, in May, 2018, which will coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary.  Rep. Lou Barletta (PA-11) released the following statement applauding the announcement:

“President Trump’s commitment to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel’s historic capital in Jerusalem is a welcome and mutually beneficial development in our longtime alliance.  The historical connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem is indisputable.  It is an eternal connection spanning thousands of years.  By sending a powerful message of unity, President Trump has delivered clarity in policy and reaffirmed the American people’s deep alliance with Israel since the modern state’s founding 70 years ago.  I encourage countries around the world to stand with the United States and immediately begin the process of moving their embassies to Jerusalem.”
