Announces strong support for President Donald J. Trump’s nomination for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize

WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) released the following statement after President Donald J. Trump’s announcement that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is returning to the United States from North Korea with three Americans who were held hostage by Kim Jong Un:

“Today, because of President Trump and Secretary Pompeo’s expert negotiating and diplomacy, three Americans are on their way home to their families after being held hostage by North Korea.  Not only has President Trump brought these Americans home, but since taking office, his leadership has also resulted in the termination of North Korea’s testing of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, and effectively ended the 68-year-old war between North and South Korea.  These efforts are worthy of more than just our praise.

“Each year, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to the person who has done the most or best work for relationships between nations, for the elimination or reduction of standing armies, and for the promotion of peace.  It is clear that President Trump’s actions to end the Korean War, denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and bring peace and safety to the region and the international world are more than deserving of this honor.”
