Barletta Statement on Trump Executive Order on “Mexico City” Abortion Funding Policy
WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) today praised an executive order issued by President Donald J. Trump that reinstates the U.S. policy that blocks organizations which receive federal funding from providing or promoting abortions in foreign nations. The policy, known as the “Mexico City Policy” because of the location chosen by former President Ronald Reagan for its announcement in 1984, affects non-governmental organizations receiving federal taxpayer support.
Barletta issued the following statement:
“The tax dollars of American citizens should not be used to further the brutal practice of abortion, whether it is in this country or anywhere else around the world. If we spend public funds promoting the killing of unborn babies, we unavoidably make that the official policy of the United States. This is wrong. We ought to be protecting and celebrating human life, not using American public resources to endorse the ending of it.”
