Sessions to Provide Information to Prospective Service Academy Nominees

WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) announced that his office will host two information fairs in early May for prospective nominees to United States service academies.  Barletta will host one event in Plymouht with Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-17) and another in Harrisburg with Senator Pat Toomey’s office.  The information sessions will be attended by officials from each of the five service academies: the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.

“Our United States service academies have always attracted our best, brightest, and bravest,” Barletta said.”  “I applaud their interest in serving our country.  It is one of my greatest privileges to meet these future leaders and encourage them on their journey.”

The sessions will include an overview of academy life as well as an opportunity to meet with academy representatives to discuss requirements for admission.  Academy nominations are available only through a Member of Congress, the Vice President, or the President.  After receiving a nomination, students then must be accepted by the individual academy for final admission.
