Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Lou Barletta was proud to announce that Wilkes-Barre has been selected to host a House Committee on Education & the Workforce Field Hearing on Monday, March 21st at Wilkes University.

“I’m excited at the opportunity for Northeastern Pennsylvania to play a leading role in preparing our national workforce for the future,” Barletta said. “As the home of some of the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities, our region possesses a distinct voice when it comes to preparing our students for the labor force in the face of difficult economic times. If our region is to be successful in the coming years, we not only have to put people to work, we must prepare them to do their jobs well.”

“Through his years of public service, Congressman Barletta has gained a deep understanding of the needs of his community.  His unique perspective is invaluable to the work of our committee,” said Chairman John Kline (R-MN). “I look forward to joining Lou and the people of Wilkes-Barre to learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing their schools and workplaces, and how policies in Washington are affecting their everyday lives.”

Entitled “Reviving our Economy: The Role of Higher Education in Job Growth and Development,” the Field Hearing will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the Henry Student Center at Wilkes University, 84 West South Street in Wilkes-Barre.
