Rep. Barletta names District Director, Communications Director

WASHINGTON –Congressman Lou Barletta, PA-11, has announced two new additions to his senior staff.  Former field representative and veterans and agriculture liaison John Belcher has been named District Director and Tim Murtaugh has joined the team as Director of Communications.

“These are important times facing our nation and Pennsylvania’s 11th District,” Rep. Barletta said.  “As we move forward in righting the ship, improving our economy and tackling the many problems facing us, it is important that we have the right team in place.  I am confident that John and Tim will help strongly promote and defend the interests of our citizens.”

Belcher served nine years in the United States Marine Corps as a Night Systems Instructor, Aerial Gunner Instructor and NATOPs Instructor on various platforms for both rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft.  He also has held positions as a Substance Abuse Counselor (SACO), Uniform Victim Advocate (UVA), Suicide Prevention Officer (SPO), Ground Safety Officer and Air Safety Officer.   Belcher completed multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa participating in operations conduct during OIF, OEF, HOA and JTF Liberia.  Upon his return from military service he furthered his education at Misericordia University in history and political science.  An involved member of the community, Belcher serves as the Service Officer for his local American Legion post, is an active member in the VFW, Free and Accepted Masons and is a volunteer high school wrestling coach.  John resides with his wife of nearly a decade, Amanda, and their three dogs in his hometown of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania.

Working out of Rep. Barletta’s Washington, DC office, Murtaugh brings nearly two decades of media and communications experience to his new position.  A native of Delaware County, Pennsylvania and graduate of Temple University, he began his career in broadcasting as a radio and television reporter in Fredericksburg, Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia.  After nearly eight years as a member of the news media covering government and politics, Murtaugh moved to the other side of the equation where he has served as a spokesman and senior advisor to candidates and elected officials, including state legislators, attorneys general, governors, members of Congress and U.S. Senators.  He has also worked in senior communications roles at the Republican National Committee and the Republican Governors Association.  Murtaugh lives in Alexandria, Virginia.
