Rep. Barletta Statement on Thanksgiving 2017
WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) today issued the following statement regarding Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 23, 2017:
“Every Thanksgiving Day our nation joins with friends and family to feast, laugh and remember what we are grateful for as Americans. Americans are a compassionate people. We care for our neighbors and the less fortunate. On Thanksgiving, the finest qualities of the American people shine bright.
“As Americans we succeed and help others succeed with us. Bound by strong relationships and resilient communities, Americans have built a great nation from the ground up. Though we disagree on lots of issues, at root we are united as one by the common purpose to protect ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’ In the midst of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln asked in his first Thanksgiving proclamation for the ‘interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union.’ When all is said and done, the American people will come together in peace and harmony. Mary Grace and I wish all Americans will find such happiness this Thanksgiving Day.”
