Rep. Barletta Statement Regarding the Presidential Address to the Joint Session of Congress
Tonight, in his joint address to Congress, President Trump delivered an optimistic strategy for moving our country forward by focusing on issues that are important to all Americans, while highlighting his plans to work with both Republicans and Democrats to overcome the challenges we face as a nation and condemning evil in all its forms.
The principal responsibility of the federal government is to protect national security, and President Trump tonight reinforced that keeping the American people safe will be his administration’s top priority. That includes providing our men and women in uniform with the tools they need to remain vigilant in an increasingly dangerous world, and making sure that they receive the care they need when their service ends. He reminded us that all Americans want their children to have access to good schools in safe communities, an issue that should bring both Republicans and Democrats together. And he outlined an agenda for putting Americans back to work, namely by enforcing our immigration laws, cutting excessive regulations, providing massive tax relief for the middle class, investing in our nation’s aging infrastructure, and repealing and replacing Obamacare with a health care system that is affordable and accessible.
President Trump's message was one that I hope all of my colleagues heard loud and clear. The American people expect Congress to work together for the betterment of the nation, not a political party or special interest. With President Trump in the White House, I am excited to get real work done for the American people.
