Rep. Barletta supports 2011 budget deal
WASHINGTON– U.S. Representative Lou Barletta, PA-11, said he will support the deal that was brokered late Friday night to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year in September.
“I will vote for this deal. It funds the government through the end of the fiscal year and cuts billions of dollars in wasteful Washington spending. More importantly, it eliminates funding for abortions in Washington, D.C., and it calls for up-or-down votes in the Senate on taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood and sections of the government takeover of healthcare.
“This resolution is not perfect, but it is a good start. My friends and neighbors at home sent me to Washington to cut the wasteful spending, and this measure will do that.
“But this is just the beginning. Now the hard work begins. We saved billions in the continuing resolutions we passed over the last several weeks; now, we can move on to saving trillions of dollars and reducing the mountains of debt we’re piling onto our children and grandchildren.”
As part of the broader 2011 budget deal, Lou will vote for a short-term continuing resolution to keep the federal government funded over the next several days as the language is drafted.
