WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, PA-11, released the following statement about President Obama’s granting of amnesty to illegal aliens on Friday:

“This announcement is nothing more than backdoor amnesty for at least 800,000 illegal aliens. It’s frightening that the president of the United States is circumventing American immigration law. More than that, he’s bypassing Congress, rewriting immigration law, and overstepping his constitutional authority.

“While our unemployment rate has been over 8 percent for 40 months, President Obama is now going to hand out work permits to illegal aliens. Millions of Americans cannot find work, but the president advocates giving two-year work permits – with unlimited renewals – to illegal aliens. President Obama needs to explain his decision to American citizens and those in the country legally who cannot find good, family sustaining jobs.

“This is a betrayal of the American worker and the legal immigrants in the United States.

“President Obama’s shameless political move comes days before the U.S. Supreme Court will likely uphold Arizona’s SB 1070, which works in harmony with federal law to halt illegal immigration. So not only is the president’s decision circumventing Congress, but he’s also bypassing the highest court in the country.

“I’d say I was shocked by this blatant abuse of the presidency, but that wouldn’t be true. President Obama will use any and all political tricks to get re-elected. I just wonder how far President Obama will go before November.”
