Rep. Barletta: Today's decision a victory for big government and a defeat for individual freedom
WASHINGTON – Rep. Lou Barletta (PA-11) released the following statement about the United States Supreme Court decision about Obamacare:
“Today’s decision is a victory for big government and a defeat for individual freedom. Since I was sworn in, I voted to repeal President Obama’s healthcare law 30 times. I will continue to do what my constituents have asked me to do – repeal and replace Obamacare. By an overwhelming majority, the American people do not want Obamacare, and I still strongly believe we need to repeal it.
“For two years, we’ve seen the devastation President Obama’s healthcare law has leveled on our economy. Its confusing provisions and mandates are making it harder for small business owners to grow, expand, and hire, and that has slowed our economic recovery. Small businesses will have to pay more for health insurance for their employees, and many have said they will stop offering coverage, which means more people will have to buy their own health insurance coverage. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, 20 million Americans could lose their employer-sponsored insurance because of Obamacare once it is fully implemented.
“I am still deeply concerned that this overreach of federal authority will dramatically impact the healthcare choices my constituents will be able to make on their own.
“Senior citizens will be hurt by Obamacare because it cuts $500 billion from Medicare. Seniors will have their healthcare decisions made by a panel of 15 unelected bureaucrats who will determine whether or not a doctor who accepts Medicare gets paid to perform procedures or exams. This takes healthcare decisions away from doctors and their patients and puts them in the hands of government bureaucrats who are more concerned with the bottom line than the health of Medicare patients
“Healthcare decisions should be made between a patient and a physician based on the patient’s needs, not a federal bureaucrat based on the bottom line. This decision only reinforces my resolve to repeal Obamacare and replace it with reasonable, effective solutions.
“The highest court in the land was heard on the last Thursday in June, and the American people will be heard on the first Tuesday in November.”
