Representative Barletta Congratulates Army Lieutenant General Francis Wiercinski

WASHINGTON– Representative Lou Barletta was proud to learn that Dickson City native Francis Wiercinski has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General of the Army by the U.S. Senate.

“Congratulations to Lieutenant General Wiercinski on his well-deserved promotion,” Barletta said, “Over the course of his more than three decades in the Army, Lieutenant General Wiercinski has served our country with honor and has displayed a level of courage that serves as an inspiration to us all. I am confident our Army’s Pacific forces are in good hands under his leadership.”

Born in Dickson City, Francis J. Wiercinski is a 1979 graduate of the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York and attended the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA.  His previous assignments include commanding the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and overseeing Army operations in Japan.

He has received numerous commendations through the course of his career, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal with V Device, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge with Star, Expert Infantryman Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge with Combat Jump Star, the Ranger Tab, Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge.
