Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Representatives Lou Barletta, PA-11, Tom Marino, PA-10, and Mike Kelly, PA-3, released the following joint statement in response to President Obama’s decision to end the federal employee pay freeze, ordering raises for the vice president, members of Congress, and other appointed officials:

“At a time when families across America are struggling to make ends meet and are worried about the threat of unprecedented tax hikes, it is reprehensible that the President would order a pay raise for the vice president and members of Congress. President Obama’s decision to focus his attention on raising federal employee pay at this time clearly demonstrates the administration’s lack of seriousness in averting the fiscal cliff crisis and getting our nation’s finances back in order. This is an outrage and an insult to hardworking American taxpayer,s and we will not stand for it.

“We will do everything within our power to prevent a pay increase and we will urge the administration to apply any increase to debt reduction instead. We are working with our colleagues in the House to develop legislation that will ensure federally elected and presidentially appointed employees do not receive a pay raise.”
