Statement of Rep. Lou Barletta Regarding September 11th Anniversary
WASHINGTON –Congressman Lou Barletta, PA-11, today issued the following statement regarding the twelfth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi last year:
“The world changed for Americans on the morning of September 11, 2001. Most of us were simply going about our daily lives before we were abruptly reminded that there are forces of evil around the world which hate our freedoms and our way of life. We knew that we were in for a long struggle against terrorism – one that continues to this day.
“Unfortunately, we also observe another anniversary today: the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi last year that left our ambassador and three other Americans dead. Each year as this date rolls around we are struck by the realization that our enemies are many and their tactics are ingenious and ruthless. As a nation, we must never drop our guard and we must always stand ready.
“On this solemn day, we remember those who lost their lives – including those who likely prevented further deaths by forcing their plane down on Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. I encourage everyone to pray for the victims and their surviving friends and families, and especially for our first responders – police, firefighters and rescue workers – who knowingly rushed toward mortal danger to save others.
“As is easy to see in the headlines from around the world regarding Syria and other hostile nations, our fight against tyranny and lawlessness is far from over. But the United States of America is strong and resilient, and will ultimately prevail.”
